70 years ago, six young men set out from London on a journey to Singapore that became the stuff of legend.
In 1955, six young graduates from Oxford and Cambridge set out to make history by being the first to drive 19,000 miles overland from London to Singapore. Many had tried, all had failed. But after six months of hard slog this team finally made it, and a bedazzled young BBC producer, David Attenborough, commissioned a TV series to share their incredible adventure with a post-war-weary British public. The book written about the journey – The First Overland – has never been out of print, and has inspired generations of adventurers since.
On Sunday 31st August, we’re celebrating this legendary adventure — one that has inspired so many other adventures — with an unforgettable 70th anniversary party.
A gathering of classic Land Rovers in Belgrave Square with Land Rovers of London
A reunion of the First and Last Overland teams
A convoy through London to Henley-on-Thames
An Overlanders party hosted by Bremont Watches
All in support of @gurkhawelfaretrust
Tickets are limited — reserve your spot now and join us as we make history (again).
This event is organised in partnership with Land Rovers of London, Bremont Watches and the Gurkha Welfare Trust. 100% of ticket fees go to the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
And this isn’t the only way we’re honouring this history-making adventure — we're also inviting all explorers, adventurers and Land Rover enthusiasts to send a message of appreciation to the First Overlanders by signing the "‘Passenger’s Book".
Until August 30th, the First Overland Passenger’s Book will be sitting behind the bar in the ‘Overlander’s Pub’ — the iconic Grenadier Pub on Hyde Park Corner, London — waiting for your messages, stories and tales of First Overland-inspired adventures. We’ll be handing this over to the First Overlanders at the big birthday bash, so the clock is ticking!
Can’t get to London before then? Please send your message to info@grammar-productions.com, and we’ll make sure to include it for you.
